Making the most of the summer holiday

Klara, a student from the IGS-Geismar Schule in Cheltenham’s twin town of Göttingen travelled independently to undertake a 3-week work experience placement combined with 1-week sightseeing during her summer holiday.

With a good standard of English, Klara quickly settled into her placement in a primary school in Cheltenham, where she was a classroom assistant. With a strong interest in theatre, Klara helped with the preparations for the school’s colourful summer performance of Aladdin. Klara also participated in a visit to Slimbridge – a wetland wildlife and bird park.

A highlight for Klara was a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon with guided tours of three of the Shakespeare historic houses before attending an evening performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Swan Theatre. In contrast, a visit to a national festival held at Cardiff castle, in the capital city of Wales, highlighted aspects of Welsh culture. In addition, with Cheltenham located in the centre of the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) of more than 2,000 km2, Klara was able to explore some of the Cotswold villages.
