Join the trip to Göttingen, Germany

Interested in German culture? Interested in learning some German? Then book your place on this trip to Cheltenham’s historic and beautiful twin town of Göttingen, Germany organised by Cheltenham Twinning Association from Thursday 25 July to Friday 2 August 2019.

This is an excellent opportunity for residents of Cheltenham and the surrounding area to get to know this welcoming and vibrant university city. You are assured of a warm welcome from the Mayor of Göttingen to long-standing and new friends!

In Göttingen, you can stay with local people free of charge in their homes and experience true German life or pay to stay in a hotel.  During the 5 full days in Göttingen a programme of events and excursions will be organised including a welcome reception in Göttingen’s  beautiful Old Town Hall, a barbeque with members of the Göttingen Twinning Association, a twinning party for all participants and hosts, and excursions to the picturesque town of Wernigerode in the foothills of the Harz mountains, a visit to Scharfenstein castle, where whisky is produced (with tasting), as well as a trip to nearby Friedland, once on the border of the GDR with a tour of its refugee transit camp.  There’ll be plenty of time to explore Göttingen, as well as to meet people and make new contacts.

The organised travel there and back will be by coach with overnight stops in the Belgium town of Leuven on the way out, with a visit to Ypres, and the pretty town of Bruges on the way home.  The cost of the organised coach travel with overnight stops is approx. £295 pp.  Alternatively you can chose to make your own travel arrangements and join the group in Göttingen.
